Lauren Graham Interview on Gilmore Girls and more

The Comcast As Seen on TV blog has secured a great interview with Lauren Graham in which she talks about the movie she’s currently filming, The Dream of the Romans, her thoughts on the end of Gilmore Girls, and much more.

Lauren Graham describes a scene in The Dream of the Romans where her character, a chiropractor, had to give an adjustment. Lauren had only been to the chiropractor once, and the one set to come to help with the scene could not make it. So, she "basically tried to wrench Jeff’s back in a professional looking manner."

Lauren Graham talks about Gilmore Girls and the future, if there is one, about a Gilmore Girls movie. That topic is still in the air:

Well no one has spoken about it. I think the “Sex and the City” movie has ruined… a TV show can’t just end now. It’s implied that there’s got to be more. It never was an actual consideration, just a very sweet idea that came (it seems to me) from people who were sad the show ended and maybe sad the way it ended.

On the end of Gilmore Girls, Lauren had much to say. None of them were all that happy with the way the last year went, and with Rory’s graduation from Yale, it was unclear if the story had played itself out or, if not, where it would go. Pair that with quality of life, the lack of a raise, creative control, the producers and keeping up the quality of the show… in the end, it just didn’t come together. Lauren says the show ended abruptly, and is very upset at the lack of closure with the cast and crew in terms of no official "thanks" wrap, but she thinks it was still the right decision:

The show itself was telling us the story was over. It was actually just yesterday that Alexis sent me a text saying that it’s been a year since the show ended, but I really think we did the right thing.

Lauren talks about a lot more in the interview: from being pitched to be on The Return of Jezebel James, to getting quality roles as a woman, to Lauren’s deal with NBC and to the rumors of the Office spin-off.

  5. John says:

    That was a great interview.

I hope she finds a new TV show soon that is worth her efforts (and glad she dodged TRoJJ).

  6. em says:

I always love her interviews! And I love it that she and Alexis still stay in touch.

  7. Really enjoyed reading the interview. It’s nice to see Lauren sharing more about her feelings on Gilmore Girls ending than previous interviews. It’s too bad the powers to be (the CW) didn’t treat the cast and crew with more respect at the end of the series. They deserved more especially since GG was one of their highest rated shows for so many years. Still have high hopes we’ll see a GG movie.

Lauren is such a talent. Hope she finds another TV role that will showcase her talent as Gilmore Girls did.

  8. Jessica King says:

I love Lauren’s great and funny interview.I hope she will find new tv show, but wait and see what happen come soon.Cant wait see her new 2 movie Flash of Genius open on October 17,2008 and The Dream of the Romans.

I’m glad Lauren still keep touch and care with Alexis and they are good friend for long times.

  9. sherry says:

Yeah I’m a bit annoyed because Lauren keeps changing her opinion on gilmore girls about how one minute she is unhappy about the way it ended and she would do a GG movie with Amy to she thinks they did the right thing ending GG and that the show itself was already over-just alot of different things she keeps saying-it’s like confusing…well GG isn’t totally tied up all the loose ends such as the storyline with luke and his daughter……and luke and Lor……..we need a real ending…..

  10. James says:

sherry, she hasn’t changed her mind about the movie. She joked about it a couple of times, but never firmly said she’d do a movie version of the show. So her actual opnion hasn’t change over the past year.

  11. Mar says:

is it possible to find out exactly where lauren lives? does anyone know?

  12. Adrienne says:

i can’t wait for her to go on Ellen again!!

  13. patty says:

lauren is going to be on ellen again???????????
    when???????????
    i need to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    alexis should be on ellen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    that would be so cool!!!!!!!!

  14. Nil-Wren says:

It doesn’t surprise me that they did not know what to do next. Only Amy Sherman-Palladino could have put things together again. For instance, the part of Liza Weil was her idea, and in season seven, Liza isn’t so credible than before. But, we must move on.
Which was actually a little difficult for me. For instance, when they canceled Veronica Mars the fact that I had created a character that in some way looks like her in one of m Science Fiction novel helped me to get over it. (I had not seen VM, when I was creating it).
It was not the same with GG.
But has everyone of you read the Celestine Prophecy? Things like GG can be a clue to what to do next. Life, or God, always has its particular way to impress somebody.
So I went to Internet and to Yale. And here! Amazing! They have seven incredible courses that you can download: Astronomy, English, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology and Religious Studies. Of course, I will never meet Lorelai when she comes to see Rory, but reality has come to rescue fiction. Then I find also MIT courses that propose amazing courses too. The point is that perhaps, without GG, I would never have found something so marvelous that will help me to improve my English and extend my knowledge: Thanks Gilmore Girls, thanks Amy Sherman-Palladino, thanks the creators of this site.
And of course, thanks all the fans that keep the dream alive…

  15. Jennifer says:

if there can be a sex in the city movie there dam well better be at least one or two gilmore girls movies. the audience is there.. Amy P twould be a travesty not to

  16. Nil-Wren says:

A fact is, that there was too much material in the sex in the city, so I never watch it more than two or three episodes. Perhaps it was too much a show for women. By the way, it was a woman that recommended me the show. But I couldn’t watch it.
GG it’s not the same. Material is dealt with good measure. And that’s also the reason why I loved so much the show and would like to see a movie or another season too.

  17. elizabeth says:

I think Lauren Graham is an amazing actress. I have a movie for her to direct and star in. It is a horse movie. She would be perfect for the role.
