Gilmore Girls Episode Recap:
This episode picks up the next moment from the last. Lorelai is on her way out, and Rory goes with her. Lorelai tells Rory not to worry about earlier – she’s the daughter of a woman with "no end of less than proud moments." Rory hopes Luke is ok, he was so angry. To Luke, Rory is still a young girl. Lorelai suggests Rory go back to the party. She pretends Luke is just bringing around the car – but Lorelai has to order a cab.
Lorelai gets dropped off at Luke’s Diner, but Luke is not back yet. Ceasar offers to tell him to call. He asks that Lorelai not mention that he was listening to the radio or eating pie. Babette and Maury get a red flag ‘uh oh’ when Lorelai asks if they’ve seen Luke. They talk about all of Taylor’s contingency plans if Lorelai and Luke split. Lorelai says there’s no splitting. Lorelai calls Luke’s cell and leaves a message. Again. Asks him to please call her.
Rory comes home late and notices there are no messages for her. She goes to wake up Paris to ask if there are any messages for her. Rory then asks if there really were no messages, or if Paris is just mad about being woken up. Paris sits up. Asks which boy Rory is dying to get a message from. Paris is now wide awake, so forces Rory into Boggle as revenge.
Kirk has seen Luke, who had told him that Lorelai wasn’t feeling well when he went to the movie theater. Kirk also assumes something is wrong with Lorelai and Luke. Both dressed up, but not together. Kirk also mentions that Taylor would go nuts if there were a break-up.
Lorelai joins Luke in the theater and says she’s being trying to call. Lorelai then offers up her explanations, but Luke doesn’t want to hear them. He just wants time. Lorelai has so much she wants to say, but Luke says "not right now." That he needs to clear his head. Lorelai asks that Luke call when he’s ready. Then leaves. Luke lets out a huge sigh.
Lorelai is planning a pancake breakfast for six little girls and their six dolls. A special party at the Inn. And yes, they are to be served breakfast as well. Michel gets on Lorelai’s nerves with his criticism of the party and serving dolls food.
Lorelai tells Sookie about her disagreement with Luke. About Chris showing up and the big fight they all had. Lorelai regrets not telling Luke about the night with Chris. So, how much time is enough time for Luke? Sookie tells the story of a couple in love that also hit major turbulence but who, 40 years later, got back together. Lorelai is not so encouraged by that. Lorelai doesn’t want just an ‘ending’ with Luke. She wants to be with Luke.
Rory and Paris are each preparing their four bowls of cereal for breakfast. Paris digs again for who the guy is that Rory is waiting for a call from. Paris guesses that it’s Logan Huntzberger, and is grossed out. Not her type. But, Paris is also waiting for a call from Doyle. Paris says they’re better than this, than waiting around for guys to call.
Paris wants advice on dating and calls on Janet and her friend Althea, who are in the dining hall. Rory doesn’t want their advice, but Paris shares her situation. A "call you later" without a call is a "screw you," they say. They suggest Paris call Doyle instead, with a pretense of needing something like notes. Rory is piqued by all this, and asks if her guy should be calling after they were interrupted while "getting together"? The interruptions were major, they say, and suggest that Rory call him. He may think she has too much drama – call with something casual, like to hang out. If that works, they suggest she act casual but look hot.
All about town there are now pink and blue ribbons. Gypsy tells Lorelai she’s on her side, with the break-up. Lorelai says there has been no split. Taylor has implemented his contingency plan with the ribbons. Lorelai sees Luke go to Doose’s. She tells Taylor she’ll deal with him later, then finds Luke.
Lorelai starts saying all the stuff she’s been wanting to say. Lorelai knows she should have seen it coming, what Chris said. Lorelai is willing to cut Chris out of her life completely. Luke thinks this will happen again and again. Luke tries to run out, but Lorelai stops him and blames her mother for causing all this. Says she won’t see her mother either. Luke says the Gilmores and Chris will always be in Lorelai’s life. Luke feels like he’ll never be welcome. Luke says he can’t do this yet, he needs more time. Lorelai says she’s upset by all this, and is afraid of his ‘time’ and of the town dividing up. Lorelai tells Luke she’s all in. But that she can’t wait, she needs to know what he’s thinking right now.
"Fine, you want to know what I’m thinking right now? That I can’t be in this relationship. It’s too much."
Luke walks out. Lorelai just whispers "No" in shock.
Rory makes a call to Logan. Rory tries to stammer if Logan wants to hang out – he just smiles on the other end of the phone. When Logan seems into it, he asks when. Rory suggests tonight. Logan asks Rory to come to his place.
Rory, primping her hair as she goes, arrives to Logan’s place. Someone other than Logan answers the door, and when he calls Rory a girl scout, Logan calls ‘Ace’ in. He and the boys are playing poker. There are some girls by his bar. Logan asks Rory to sit and be his good luck charm, and makes a point of saying Rory looks very nice. Logan is down $9000 already in the night. Rory looks uncomfortable. When Logan asks her if she wants a drink, Rory says she’s not sure how long she’ll stay.
The girls and their dolls are waiting for Lorelai, who has not shown up to the Dragonfly to set up the little tables and china. Sookie is in panic mode, and Michel is not being helpful. Lorelai had games for the girls too, but Sookie can’t reach her on the phone. Sookie decides to go to Lorelai’s house. Michel is asked to kiss the dolly’s boo boo, but doesn’t understand.
Rory is asleep on the couch at Logan’s. The boys are still playing poker, even though it’s morning. Logan says good morning. Rory gets a call from Sookie to ask Rory to come home because Lorelai is in bad shape. Something happened with Lorelai and Luke. Rory realizes that her car is at the dealership for service. Logan offers Rory her car (he has a hired car service).
Rory gets home and runs straight upstairs, telling Sookie she has it from here. Lorelai is crying in bed, saying she blew everything and Luke hates her. Lorelai says she should have told Luke about Chris. Lorelai says that Emily pushed Chris to ruin everything. Lorelai mentions the ribbons. Feels like the town hates her too, for wrecking everything. Lorelai says she pushed Luke when he needed time, and now he’s gone. Lorelai cries that Luke could have been "the one."
Lorelai is having a dream. In it, she comes downstairs to look for Rory but instead sees Luke, in her kitchen, on the red couch watching a movie. Her kitchen becomes the movie theater, and Lorelai goes to sit with Luke. Luke says they are watching "something stupid" – onscreen, it’s Luke & Lorelai on a romantic date in Lorelai’s kitchen. On screen, Luke is delivering his "I am all in" line, and the on-screen Lorelai says nothing. The dream Lorelai wills her to say something. Luke is replaced by a blue ribbon on the couch. And Lorelai wakes up.
Lorelai tells Rory to get back to Yale, but Rory says she’s there for the duration. Rory offers to grab sustenance and entertainment for Lorelai’s stay in bed. Lorelai doesn’t want anything, but Rory insists. Lorelai warns Rory about the ribbons and the onslaught of questions sure to hit Rory.
Rory had a trick up her sleeve. She had Lane pick up groceries while Rory stayed hidden in the limo. Rory hands a sandwich to Frank, the driver. Lane tells Rory that Taylor is holding a big debate in Doose’s about the break-up. Taylor saying that Lorelai should have married max and going on like crazy with the ribbons, trying to divide the town. Rory gets mad and storms in to the market, where Taylor is giving his opinions and Luke and Lorelai to the customers he’s servicing.
Rory goes in and grabs the bin of ribbons from Taylor. Takes them right out back to the limit. Rory has moxie today, Lane says. Someone is honking at the limo, so Rory goes up through the sunroof of the limo and starts to yell, but finds that it’s Luke that is honking at the limo. He’s just as startled as she is and apologizes. Rory says she’s not usually in a limo, and ducks back in.
Frank is helping bring the television up to Lorelai’s bedroom, which is now fully stocked with comfort food, including Paris’ cereal recipe of 5 types of cereal mixed with skim milk and half&half. Rory explains the limo to Lorelai as being borrowed from a "friend" – Lorelai guesses it’s Logan.
Lorelai tells Rory to get back to Yale, saying she feels better, is even sitting up. Rory tells Lorelai the downstairs is prepped too, and that she checked in with Sookie. Michel came through on the party with the dolls. Rory leaves, and Lorelai crouches back under the covers dejectedly.
Lorelai later is sitting up in bed – she hesitates, but then picks up the phone. She calls Luke and leaves a message. Tells Luke she’s not doing great. She asks if Luke remembers the breakup on The Way We Were, and how after the couple broke up, he was still there to comfort her as a friend. Lorelai is crying. Lorelai asks Luke to please come over, that she needs to see him and talk to him. She says for Luke to "please come over" many times. Then, realizing what she’s done, Lorelai hangs up the phone and gets out of bed.
Lorelai runs to Luke’s and takes the hidden key and opens the diner. Lorelai goes up to Luke’s apartment, and he’s not there. She steals the tape from the answering machine and leaves.
Rory comes to tell Logan she’s returning Frank. She thanks Logan for her help, but in a formal way (with arms crossed), and he notices. Logan tells Rory she was lucky for him in the game and she should come to all the games. Rory says,
"Yeah, kiddo, maybe I should"
mimicing how Logan called her kiddo when she arrived to the game. Rory asks Logan if he had considered that Rory wanted to hang out, just the two of them. Logan says it was a little vague. Logan’s choice was to say no, since he had a game, or say yes and invite her over. Logan says he wanted to see Rory. Rory says she wanted to see Logan too, but wanted it to be more intimate.
Logan then asks if the only time they can see each other is to have sex? Rory says no, it’s not what she’s trying to say. Rory agrees they can see each other under all kinds of conditions, including groups, like last night. Rory now sees there was no problem. Logan tells Rory he’s going out of town for a week, but wants to set something up, to "hang out". Rory plans never to listen to those girls again. Logan says "no group this time," and kisses Rory.
Logan promises not to call Rory kiddo again. Rory agrees there are so many other things he could call her. Logan sees that as an opening. Rory kisses Logan again and leaves. He looks after her with a sigh.
Lorelai is walking back from Luke’s. She finds Luke coming out of her house, wanting to see if she’s ok. Luke had gotten the message. He ran right over and broke the back door to get in when Lorelai didn’t answer. Lorelai apologizes, says she’s humiliated and won’t do it again. She was hurting and she knew he would come.
Luke says it’s ok, but Lorelai insists it’s not. Lorelai is not that girl who falls apart and calls her ex. Lorelai has to look down when she says "ex-boyfriend." Lorelai thanks Luke for coming, and gives him back the tape from his answering machine. Lorelai promises Luke it’s the last crazy thing he’ll hear from her and tells him that she heard him when he said he was out. She plans to respect it. Luke can only say "ok." And he walks home, stunned.

i really enjoyed this episode….i felt really sad for lorelai because Luke was questioning their relationship. I think rory was concerned with Luke being angry because she knows that her mother is happy with luke and now because of Christopher, their relationship might be broken forever so she is angry with christopher.
I actually enjoyed this episode because it showed how great Luke was and how much he changed her. The dream showed her that she didn’t commit much as him. It shows how in the 2nd time she will be more commited.
I hate this episode, cuz Luke broke up with Lorelai. But I understand how Luke feel about Lorelai and Chris relationship past and Lorelai dont want with Chris.I feel sad and feel bad for Lorelai is very hurt for want with with Luke.
■Why is Rory concerned about Luke being angry, and not Chris?
■Why does everyone assume the worst when Lorelai is looking for Luke?
■Does Luke assume Chris is right about him and Lorelai?
■Is a Luke / Lorelai fight a bigger deal than a fight any other couple has? Why?
I think that it’s a big deal because they are fighting about something that they cannot change. He is who he is, and she comes from a different world.
■Why does Logan invite Rory to his place if he has friends over? Or, did he just think Rory wanted to ‘hang out’, plain and simple?
I think he is scared about getting in too deep with her. He knows that she is not a ‘stringless’ sort of girl so he’s showing her that his world will not revolve around her
■Is Taylor enjoying the break-up for its gossip potential?
Yes I think so. It makes him feel important
