Rory tries to break the hostility between Emily and Lorelai. Emily is mad that Lorelai walked out on them after ‘dumping’ the Chris news. Lorelai reads in the paper that someone they know murdered her husband. But at least she had a husband, right?

Lorelai has a cold – Luke says it’s because she eats crap. Jess’ girlfriend comes in and kisses him pretty much right in front of Rory’s face. Dean walks in and gets praise for his full sentences.

Mouse at the Inn. Michel is guarding it in the fireplace until someone comes to help. Kirk drops of Sookie’s wedding photos and then asks Lorelai out on a date. You know, after her cold is over. Lorelai tries to turn him down but he calls her the prettiest girl he’s ever seen.

Lorelai sits waiting for Rory to wake up for her "last first day of high school." Rory tells Lorelai to wear her dress with the ponies for Kirk. Lorelai doesn’t know how to let him down easily.

Rory is sworn in as Vice President. Lorelai is torn between saving a seat for Emily or not. Paris gives a very tedious speech. Emily invites Lorelai to lunch. At Luke’s.

Francie brings up a "major issue" at the student body meeting – hemlines. Impresses Paris, such serious issues. Rory criticizes Paris for ranting for the whole hour of their ‘get to know you’ meeting.

Francie pulls Rory into a bathroom to say that Paris is not the one in charge – though she is student body president, there are three other presidents. Including Francie, the senior class president. Francie says she controls the senior class and can make Paris’ life a living hell – strip her of all power. Rory is not into the back-door deals and bribery. She has an idealistic view of politics – and Francie even threatens her not to tell Paris. Or Francie will undermine Rory.

Luke knows about Kirk – Kirk had asked him for advice about Lorelai. Emily comes in and Lorelai wants to know what’s up. The ‘no hidden agenda’ evaporates when Emily says she’d talked with Christopher. Emily believes Chris is not in love with Sherry. Tells Lorelai she needs to tell Chris she wants him. Thinks Sherry is trapping him. Lorelai tells Emily she has no right – to stay out of it. Lorelai walks out.

Rory sees her tough spot – suggests the hemlines to Paris. To create goodwill. Rory suggests it could make her ‘beloved’ which is enough for Paris.

Lorelai suggests a ‘Freaky Friday’ moment to get out of dating Kirk.

Emily’s maid is a little ditzy. Emily is on edge. Lorelai wants to know why Emily is putting up with it. Emily is trying to prove to herself and to Richard that she can keep a maid.

Chris shows up and demands to talk with Lorelai. She won’t return his calls and he thinks that’s unjustified. Accuses Lorelai of keeping Rory from him – hearing that, Rory jumps in to say she didn’t call because she didn’t want to. He made a promise to her at the wedding, which he broke. Rory tells Chris to "go be somebody else’s dad."

After Rory runs off, Chris seems unable to understand that Rory needs time off from him. He thinks that Sherry being pregnant has nothing to do with where they are right now. All he can say is that he didn’t "want" any of this – but regardless of what he wants, Lorelai reminds him, he is still committed to another woman. He refuses to accept it. Lorelai tells him it’s killing her to stand there and talk to him. Emily tells Chris to go. Lorelai goes out and tells Chris to give it time.

Lorelai tries to comfort Rory, who says Chris hurts her even if he doesn’t mean to. Rory doesn’t want to go to their wedding – the "wrong" wedding.

Kirk comes by – not for his answer, but to see if Lorelai likes tuna. Lorelai breaks it to Kirk that she can’t date him. She is getting over a relationship. Poor Kirk.

Jess blocks Rory’s way in the market. Wants to know why she’s giving him the cold shoulder. Rory wants to know what "interesting" things happened to him that summer. Jess says "her name’s Shane." And wants to know if Rory is upset about something. She says no, but does say it surprised her. After what happened at Sookie’s wedding, it threw her. Jess didn’t hear from her all summer. That she kissed him, tells him not to say anything, then leaves and doesn’t contact him. She has no right to be put out. And what about Dean? Demands to hear her say she didn’t contact him and that she’s still with Dean.
