Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Lorelai cut her hand trying to clean their gutters. Cesar is cooking at Luke’s – the girls don’t like his pancakes. Lorelai goes up to Luke’s apartment to see where he is. Jess’ boxes have arrived and exploded around the apartment. Lorelai finds the ledger Luke was looking for and holds it hostage for her pancakes.
That night, they spot Luke sitting a lone in the diner watching a very mini tv. Lorelai investigates. Jess is upstairs with the music and the mess. Lorelai suggests Luke get a bigger place – the office was too small for one person as an apartment, let alone 2 people. Luke volunteers Jess to clean Lorelai’s gutters.
Lorelai admits to Rory that she’s not comfortable with Jess. Rory asks her to give Jess a chance – she did the same with Luke, whom she called Duke for 2 years before they were friends. Lorelai is supicious of Rory’s motives. Rory babbles that they are not really good friends but friendly. Friendish.
Luke goes upstairs and knocks over his tv, at which point the mess sends him overboard. He’s going crazy, not sleeping. He can’t stand the mess. He says tomorrow, they go find a new apartment. Jess is all pouty cause he needs the crazy music to sleep. Luke looks pleased with that. Next day, Luke and Jess can’t agree on an apartment they both like.
Lorelai has chosen a new barnyard alarm clock. Jess comes to do the gutters – and give Rory a CD. He asks if her hair is different – showing he notices small things. And giving him a chance to both look at Rory and unnerve her. He goes back to monosyllables in front of Lorelai.
Rory asks him why he does that and asks him to try to get along with Lorelai. He wants to know why. Just because she’s Rory’s mom and Luke’s friend means nothing to him. Rory says if he "cares about her at all" that he will make an attempt. He asks what makes her think he cares. Rory stammers she didn’t mean "care care" or "like like". He agrees to try. Smiles to himself when she leaves.
Dean is getting bored while Rory is at the book fair. He seems annoyed and Rory tells him they can go. It’s been 2 hours, and though she’s not done, she’ll go. He wants to see Lord of the Rings again. Her turn to be unimpressed. Dean notices Rory’s bracelet is not on – she fakes having a rash.
Lorelai comes out and offers Jess lunch – her peace offering. He refuses at first, but then thanks her and comes in. His peace offering. They do ok at the small talk. Rory runs in freaking out about losing her bracelet. And doesn’t remember when last she recalls wearing it. They search the house – Jess looks on a little confused. He realizes that the bracelet he picked up is the one in question.
Luke calls Lorelai to vent about the stupidity of the rental system. There is one place he thought was ok. You know, it has walls and a floor and a light. He wants her to give him a second opinion. The realtor mistakes her for Luke’s wife, so she plays along and calls him ‘snuffy’. She says she likes the place. That, even when Jess goes off somewhere, he may have a lady friend and a small apartment with a single bed won’t cut it. She wears him down. He signs the lease.
Lorelai comes home to see Jess coming out of Rory’s room. He pretends he was looking at her books.
Taylor comes to ask Luke about his rental application. Apparently he owns that building, among 9 others. He’s basically buying up the town to ensure it’s historically correct in paint and maintenance. He’d dictate the entire town’s look if he could – liked that aspect of Fascism. Luke says to tear up his application – Taylor runs out and tells him he’s considering buying the flower shop next to Luke’s for a collectible plates store and that they need to talk about Luke’s sign. Too ‘confusing’. Luke advises Taylor to get an arm-swinging length away.
Rory comes home sad about her bracelet. Jess asks if it’s really that big a deal. Rory admits things are weird between her and Dean and he won’t take losing the bracelet lightly. Thinks he will read something into it. Jess asks if Dean should? Rory says no. Jess encourages her to look in her room again. It was there, right under the bed.
Lorelai accuses Jess of taking Rory’s bracelet. She calls him a jerk. Jess keeps saying he didn’t take it. When Lorelai accuses Jess of being jealous of Dean, whom Rory is madly in love with, and that he hurt Rory by taking her most ‘precious’ possession, he retorts asking why it took Rory 2 weeks to figure out it was gone. He doesn’t correct Lorelai on how he got it – she tells him to leave.
Luke comes storming in saying he spent $100,000 (so cheap!) and it’s Lorelai’s fault. Tells him about Taylor. Made him go crazy with rage. He heard Lorelai’s voice in his head telling him to ‘take a chance’ so he bought the building. With cash. Lorelai suggests he sleep on it – he could do things with the building.
Lorelai asks if Luke has noticed anything between Jess and Rory. He hasn’t, but thinks it would be great. Thinks Rory would be good for Jess.
Luke comes home with a gleeful smile and swagger. Grabs a sledge hammer. Breaks down the wall between the buildings! Tells Jess that’s his room and that he can finish up. And they can ‘hold hands and skip’ after (what Jess kept saying earlier when they were looking at cleaning up apartments). One of my favorite scenes.

I am the biggest Jess fan ever, but I hate that he took the bracelet. If he didn’t know it was from Dean, what was the point of him taking it? Was he going to do something with it later? And if he was going to return it, he should have been sneakier about it. I liked that Jess tried to be nice to Lorelai after Rory said something to him. It’s obviously not easy for him to get along with adults, but he tried so that definitely says something.
i love how jess is all “rebel´´ in this episode! but at the same time, he´s trying to be sweet so lorelai can at least not hate him!
I’m glad Rory want Lorelai and Jess try be nice each other.I was little mad Jess did not tell Rory about bracelet, when Rory lose and not find it.I love that part of Lorelai was flirt with Luke, when the woman said to Luke that you and your wife look for new apt,but Luke try tell her then Lorelai pretend be Luke’s wife then make me laugh.
jess stole the bracelet because it was a sybol of rory not because it was deans and i don think he has trouble talking to adults i jus think he doesnt care so doesnt make the effort i also like the part were lorelai flirts with luke and i think he liked the appartment so much because lorelai liked it.
I truly like Jess and felt sorry for him that he was “caught” by Lorelei when he put the bracelet back. Remember, he did not steal it…and, yes, I agree w/Keziah, it was more of a symbol of Rory (something tangible he could hold that belonged to her) and he did the right thing by putting it back. How bad can he be?????????
GG and their clocks – love the clock that purred (or didn’t and so they were late for Rory’s 1st day at Chilton”), the barnyard clock and my personal favorite being “at the oasis” clock! :)
I thought it was sweet that Jess kept the bracelet – perhaps it was too nice a thing for him to keep, but he was just being sentimental. Something to remind him of Rory. I don’t think it was malicious – and, indeed, he returned it when he knew what it meant to her.
I loved the final scene. I laughed so hard when I watched it the first time. Great stuff.
