Gilmore Girls Episode Recap & Photos:
Richard has been sent to Ohio – he’s miserable about his job. Rory walks right into a trap to cheer Richard up – an oil portrait of her. Lorelai sat for 3 painters and all of them quit from her scowling. Emily slams down the salt to get Lorelai to stop talking.
Luke is brainstorming about the Inn with Lorelai and suggests she name it – but Lorelai recounts the naming of her house as The Crap Shak – nice. He asks about a location and Lorelai mentions the ‘Rachel property’, as it’s come to be named. Luke says he learned about business on the fly – but knows his stuff.
Lorelai and Sookie try to come up with names. They find out the property is owned by Fran of Weston’s Bakery.
There is a chalk outline of a body in front of Doose’s, with crime tape.
Lorelai and Sookie meet at Weston’s. Fran says the old Dragonfly Bed & Breakfast was her parents’ business. Fran is excited to hear they want to run their own Inn, but won’t sell the property. Without family, she considers the place her family. They try to discreetly ask what would happen when Fran dies, but Fran doesn’t clue in.
The police show up to the ‘crime scene’. None of the police know how it got there. They confirm that it’s a prank. Rory spots Jess leaning casually against a poll – and realizes he did it. He smiles at her in a very confident way.
Sookie and Lorelai went so far as to look up Fran’s angina to estimate how long she had to live. Michel announces that the ‘boss’ is there – Mia. Rory and Lorelai run to embrace her. Michel, not so much. Mia can’t understand a word he says. Rory has fun with that and translates his pleasantries as rude comments to Mia.
Luke has a big hug for Mia too – she calls him Lucas. Mia knew Luke as a boy – who helped carry groceries for folks, was a skateboarder, and a year he wore the same shirt every day. Hearing that it was a Star Trek shirt, Lorelai flips out! Luke was a Trekie!
Taylor confronts Luke about witnesses saying Jess was around during the prank time and had bought chalk. Taylor is demanding action. Mia recounts hiring Lorelai – the thin girl who showed up with a look of defiance and no skills. But before long all the other maids hated her – she was so fast! Mia compliments Lorelai on her work at the Inn and says she’s irreplaceable.
Lorelai feels bad about not telling Mia about the Inn. Emily calls to say that Rory is being horrible – not posing well. But it’s an awkward position. They agree on a more natural and appropriate pose – Rory reading. Mia understands Michel! Sookie calls Lorelai a chicken for not telling Mia.
Town meeting night – Taylor started the meeting early, without Luke, to deal with the ‘Jess Situation’. The whole town are laying charges against Jess for various acts of petty theft and rebellion. It almost sounds like they want to kick Jess out. Lorelai helps defend Luke – tells the town to give Luke a chance to deal with an issue, if there is one. Before tarring and feathering him.
Lorelai brings up her dream of owning her Inn. Mia says that both Lorelai and Sookie have more talent for this business than she does – she was not naive in thinking they’d stay forever. Mia wants to help them. And says that them leaving gives Mia the chance to finally sell the Independence Inn.
Lorelai is upset that Mia wants to sell her Inn. She thinks a chain will buy it out and change everything – it will lose its charm. Lorelai is in a panic and is bitter – and now doubts if they will ever get their own Inn. She puts it on hold – she has no time to go look for another place. And she accuses Sookie of slacking off. And that the way Sookie is – changing things, being late – could kill their start-up.
Jess comes to make small talk with Rory who is mad – not on her own behalf, but that of Luke. Jess feigns innocence, though doesn’t deny it. And doesn’t seem to care that the town ganged up on Luke. She lectures to Jess. He admits he didn’t know they were coming down that hard on Luke. And Rory does smile a bit when Jess asks if she thought his prank funny. Dean comes along and Rory seems embarrassed to tell Jess he’s her boyfriend.
The Rory painting is done. Lorelai’s peevishness is still apparent. Realizing she was a jerk to Emily in her rant, she goes to apologize. Lorelai confesses to Emily about her fight with Sookie, Mia showing up, and admitting that her home for so long, the Inn, may not be there. Emily seems saddened by the mention of Mia.
Luke has waterproofed the chuppa. He seems to know something is up with the Inn plans, and Lorelai fesses about the fight. Lorelai was overwhelmed by the enormity of what they were doing. She has no confidence in herself. Luke thinks otherwise – and that she knows it. Since she doesn’t ‘have to’ leave and start her own place, she is not sure she can accomplish it. Luke admits you get scared going on your own – he threw up and passed out on his first day at the diner. She just has to jump in.
Lorelai apologizes to Sookie for being unjust. Sookie wants to proceed, but not at the cost of their friendship. Lorelai promises not to bail.
Emily goes to introduce herself to Mia – to meet the woman who raised Lorelai. Emily makes a point of saying that an Inn is not a home. Mia says seeing Lorelai with baby Rory – she thought of being a mother and wanting the daughter to be safe and to find her way. Emily says she would have wanted someone to send her home. Emily leaves – but asks if Mia has pictures of back then. Mia will send them on.
Jess has fixed Luke’s toaster. But won’t admit he did. A ‘save face tough guy’ apology. Jess smiles at Rory as he leaves.
