Amy Sherman-Palladino on Gilmore Girls Movie

Amy Sherman-Palladino attended the FOX press tour to promote her new show, "The Return of Jezebel James."

Ausiello was there, and recorded the fabulous news that Amy is still considering a Gilmore Girls movie!

2:47 pm: Parker Posey never saw Gilmore Girls and, as a result, "never knew the genius that was Amy Sherman-Palladino."

2:50 pm: On casting ex-Gilmore guy Scott Cohen on Jezebel, AS-P says, "I’ve been dying to work with him. He’s that rare breed: An attractive man who you don’t want to punch in the face because he can’t talk."…

2:58 pm: First Gilmore Girls question! AS-P didn’t watch the finale. "I couldn’t watch it because it wasn’t going to be my ending. I love all those people. Lauren’s my pal." She then confirms what I first told you guys back in May: She’s up for a reunion pic down the line. "We’ve talked about maybe doing a little song-and-dance together again."

3:02 pm: AS-P reveals the final GG words! "You’re adopted!" She kids, she kids. She better be kidding.

3:03 pm: Yes, she’s kidding…

3:29 pm: OK, just back from the stampede. AS-P had some veddy interesting things to say about her embattled Gilmore successor. "I think David Rosenthal is a great guy and a terrific writer. And I think he took a lot of heat because he was put in the worst possible situation: to take over a show that was so personal to us. And they didn’t give him the support that he needed. The studio didn’t put him in a good position. I think the world of him. We didn’t watch [the show last season] not because of him, [but because] it was just too hard." Regarding the GG reunion pic: "I think if the stars align we can do it. I’d love to work with that cast one more time. Dan and I would write something great. It would mean a lot to us." Her hubby, Dan Palladino, added, "I think you wait a couple years. Wait a couple years. Make sure there’s some interest."

Wohoo! But it will be so hard to wait a couple of years not knowing if it will happen! Of course, it’s probably best that way. Give all the actors some space and distance so, when the opportunity comes up, they will want to do it.

  1. Pamela says:

I congratulate ASP on her wonderful comments about Dave Rosenthal. I was always a champion for the Exec. Producer who had to perform in the wake of the Pallidinos departure. While the beginning of Season 7 was not my favorites the last half was worth watching. From all indications, the CWTV Network honchos are difficult to deal with.

I look forward to the Palladinos doing a GG Movie. I am sure the interest will be there. I just hope they can do it with the original cast members – and only the originals.

  2. Trish says:

Now I think Scott Cohen is a doll. I didn’t like Max for Lorelai, but I totally liked him for me. :)
Max was great – just not Luke.

  3. erin says:

I think they shouldn’t wait a few years. They should do it now, while people are still upset about the show being cancelled. But what do I know? :)

  4. Jess says:

WAIT? geez thats gonna kill me

  5. Jess says:

    …i just didn’t like the finale…i felt uncomplete…

  6. Kristen ^_^ says:

I totally agree with you Pamela! If there is going to be a Gilmore Girls Movie then there should only be the original cast and I also think that if they do make a Gilmore Girls Movie they should try to make it a feature film but in the trailers they should reveal nothing and I mean nothing what so ever about what will happen in the movie and just have the theme song, “Where you lead” playing and the many great moments from the 1st-6th season shown about Gilmore Girls and I think that the title should be Amy and Dan Palladino’s Gilmore Girls. But if it doesn’t become a feature and just a made for tv movie that is fine too! I just hope that which ever form of it being release it will also be available on Dvd ^_^

  7. Adrienne says:

but in all seriousness.. who will be as interested in a few years… compared to now? people are gonna move on by then. so many people want it within the year.

  8. Wonder Y says:

I want this to happen, yet I can’t visualize what form it will take. For this to work it has to be funny. Not just Evan Almighty funny, seriously funny. When I think of the things that had me seriously laughing, like where-did-the-anvils-go dialogues, I wonder if that style of humor can work for a wider audience. After all, even at its peak, GG never got a 10 ratings share.

The other thing that concerns me is that for the most part, the adult characters are not allowed to grow. Luke, Christopher, and Mrs. Kim were forced to grow because of the growth of their children, but the rest of the adults are largely the same as they always were. It isn’t like Lorelai is suddenly going to be able to have a successful long term relationship. So where do they take the plot?

I’ll definitely support it if it happens, but I have my doubts.

  9. MK says:

    HAHAHAHHA…you’re adopted.
    thats basically hilarious.

  10. Chelsea says:

Whoo hoo! But darn that’s a long wait.

  11. Kate says:

    adopted, thats soooooooooooooooo funny!!!!!

  12. Candace says:

OMG i love amy. she’s so damn funny.

    “you’re adopted.”

    love it!

i really really really hope this movie thing works out. we need more closure!

  13. still_a_trory says:

I fervently hope that ASP would bring back the character of TRISTAN DUGREY/CMM, since he’s the only one among Rory/Alexis leading man who hasnt been returning on the show…

    CALLING ALL THE TRORIES!!!

  14. Laura says:

For the movie I would like all of the characters from all the seasons to come back. That adoption thing is so funny. But seriously we need more closer on the greatest show ever made. I don’t like how it ended. I think that the finale was the worst episode ever. It left so many things left in the open. Well L&L ever get married? What will happen to Rory and Logan? Will Logan ever come back. Or who will Rory marry? I want these qusetions to be answered. Also Loreila has to have another kid. Her and Luke would be great parents.

  15. Meme says:

I hope ASP doesn’t really mean a couple of years. You have to strike when the iron is hot.

Remember all of the hubub about the Sex in the City move? People move on and now that it’s coming into the planning stages………NO ONE CARES!!

Not only that, I think it’s stupid to make it a cinema movie….it should be a 2 hour made-for-tv movie. This is ASP’s forte as well as the GG actresses and actors.

Maybe when ASP’s new show flops as predicted, she’ll get serious and into discussions quickly with the cast……….who KNOW this is their golden moment and will sign up.

    God willing. :-)

  16. isle says:

    @ still a trory:

Likewise! Though I’m not really a Chad’s fan, but I really like him as Tristan. I could say that among Rory’s leading men, he had the best chemistry ever for Alexis/Rory’s in GG plus the fact that his character in the said show is the most twisted but had a lot of room for development, a type that could perk up your interest. The GG writers just got soo blind enough to see w/c pair really blends so well w/ each other and just made Rory temporarily ends up with the “boring” Dean in Season 1.

  17. Mia says:

What’s with the “make sure there’s some interest”!!! The interest’s there, here, everywhere!!! Now!! Waiting would not only be excruciating (for us), but also the stupidest thing to do. Actors wander off, grow inrecognizably old or ‘plastified’, or even die!!!! I don’t want to see middle-aged Rory or saggy Lorelai, I don’t want to be catapulted in L&L’s wedding (and it’d better happen!) five years after the fact, when their kids (another must!) are already going to school… I want to SEE it all, NOW, and I’m guessing I’m not alone in this. Why the f*** do they think there’s no interest. Soooooo frustrating!
    PS Interesting idea, you Trories

  18. Manu_GG says:

Aw, it’s so great to hear from Amy!
    She is the best, ever!
She and Dan are the soul of our GG.
Without them, it’s not Gilmore Girls.
    ….I missed them so much!
….To me, the show ended with Lorelai in bed, with Christopher…to me, the show ended in 6th season.
….I have to disagree with Amy; DR is not a good writer, or producer. He changed the whole show’s context. The lines and script were stupid.
…Really, the show without Amy and Dan is not GG.
….They were our lovable, smart, funny, incredible Lorelai, our smart Rory, our Luke, our whole town and characters. We only fell in love with GG because of them.
……..I really hope they do the movie. That’s the only way to know how our REAL GG is going to end.
…And i really think to do it in two years from now is a good idea, because give us and the actors a time to think, to breath from this hard and horrible 7th season, wich wasn’t GG….
……..haha, i love the “you’re adopted” final words!!
    Amy’s great!
….And i already consider myself a fan of “The Return of Jezebel James”……just because of Amy and Dan. I can’t wait for it!
….Are there any pictures from this press tour? Cause you could post them Arieanna, huh?

  19. gen says:

    please do the movie :)
it was a really sad ending with rory not accepting the engagement. that just sucked. im sure all of us fans would still wana know what’s next for stars hollow, i felt like i have also been living in that town for the whole seven seasons! god, i just miss the show sooo much! dont leave us hanging…MOVIE please, or a season 8 would be better =)

  20. gen says:

    …i just didn’t like the finale…i felt uncomplete…

    - same here Jess!

and oh, yup, dean’s kinda boring isle, i agree with you.

  21. kristina says:

yah i was really satisfied with the finale either.
but its the best the coulda done i think with that last season. that was by far the worst season of the gg but i think rosenthal did the best with what he had…i think he gets blamed for all of it but. and i really don’t think they are gonna end up doing a movie but i hope they do like a 2 hr movie on tv. iim thinking that all the cast wont be okay with it. i hope they are for the sake of working with the palladinos but idk. they have a better chance of making it on a tv movie then a bigger actually movie, i think personally. and i think if its in a few years ya fans will be not as close thats obvious but the fans will still see it as long as i know its gonna be on and im sure all the other fans will too. As for the other projects with amy im excited to see it. And im excited to see the project scotts working on hes got alot coming up too with saw 4 and everything and of course alexis in traveling pants 2.

  22. ashley says:

In my opinion, Amy should make her 7th season maybe as a movie or a season and then the seasons she always had planned. I don´t know how many that will be but I think she knows it since the beginning of the show. In an interview she said Gilmore Girls could get more seasons than 7th Heaven. I think that would be great and Gilmore Girls would deserve it. I personally think the movie idea is not that good. What would they show in 2h? Double wedding and pregnancy? Or Lorelai comes downstairs (like in season 3, episode 1) and Luke and the twins (maybe then 6 years old) are sitting at the table and are eating breakfast? What I loved the most on Gilmore Girls was that I saw every step they made. Rory in Chilton… then in Yale… I would miss it so much if I see a movie who is 4 or 5 years later. And it seems all so unrealistic (double wedding and pregnancy?). For me that´s not really Gilmore Girls anymore. Even if it´s Amys movie, I won´t watch it! I want to see every step my girls make. That we won´t all get in a 2h movie and even not in a full new season. I know Amy planned all and I would love to see all the seasons she had planned. I write it always to her. If we have a chance to get her season 7 and all the other seasons she always had imagined, and I hope she can make all her seasons, that would be the only way for me and the right way. All the other ways (movie or a short season 8) is not enough. I think we just can have an end once and if we don´t have the seasons before, than makes nothing sence. Gilmore Girls was always slow (not in the language) but in the story (for example Luke and Lorelais relationship). They were seperated and then get married and have babys? And Rory, just started working get pregnant and married, too? That´s horrible! Just all about the relationships with the guys and the sweet mother – daughter relationship is over. If I want to see that, then I can watch “wedding planner”! I don´t want to say, that I never want to see that happen, but that needs time and that´s not the only thing the show is about! That´s why the only way is, Amys season 7 and then 8, 9,10… Well all the seasons she had planned all the time. For me that´s the only way it can work and would be (at least for me) a huge disapointment too lose such a great show with an unrealistic ending. That´s really not Gilmore Girls anymore if we get a movie or a few more episodes. We need Amys season 7 and all the other seasons she had planned. And I can´t say that the show hasn´t interesting to tell anymore. I personally could write at least scripts for at least 6 more seasons and maybe 5 without any guy relationship. How can get all that stuff in one more season or a movie or a few episodes? I don´t know a movie or a few more seasons doesn´t seem right to me.

  23. ashley says:

sorry meant a few more episodes!!!

  24. riss says:

there needs to be a gilmore girls movie!
although it will be horrible having to wait, i think it is good to wait a few years becuase the actors need a break. they all are off doing there own thing. they all seem to be relieved that gilmore girls is over. what makes you think they will jump right in and shoot a movie?
and i don’t thin there will be a loss of interest. a true gilmore girls fan would at least take 2 hours out of their to watch the movie even if they aren’t as into the show as they were before.
but please AS-P and the rest of the gilmore girls cast mae a movie!!!!

  25. Meme says:

For those that thought that Dean was boring?

Did you see the first season for him? He was kind of the BAD BOY in town. It was only until Lorilie told him…I”m watching, the whole town is watching…that he stepped back for Rory.

Let’s get it down guys. If it was me, before they changed his character down to a pet, Dean was cool. He was from Chicago and knew the streets and fell head over heels for Rory.

All of the others didn’t really love her…..she was a target, a challenge to win, including Jess, Logan and Tristan. Dean was the only one that loved Rory for HER….being smart, sweet, kind and funny.

Just my take. But I’m sure I’m not alone.

  26. Ariel says:

I agree with riss! Though a few years is quite a long time to wait, a true GG fan will wait faithfully. :-) I know that I will still be interested!! I’m a major supporter for this, doesn’t matter how long it takes just as long as they’re doing it! What I want to see out of this movie is Luke and Lorelai together and Rory going back to Jess! To me Rory just isn’t Rory without him… Neither is Lorelai without Luke. The actors do need some time and space but I’m sure that they will do it after that. If they don’t then I cant respect them as much. Just keep us up to date, I’m greatly anticipating this!!

  27. Jaye says:

@ For those that thought that Dean was boring …
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I could make this easy for you. Just try to browse at Fanfiction.net and check it out for yourself on whose Alexis/Rory’s leading man in GG Season 1 have more stories w/ Rory than the other…

    Long live all the TRORIES!

  28. Alyssa says:

    in my opinion…..the finale sucked.

  29. Suzy says:

It’s good to hear that Amy is still optomistic in doing a Gilmore Girls Movie. She’s right, wait a few years, let the actors have their space to grow in the industry. Compared to us fans watching every week and enjoying their work, they need a break.

Amy knows that her finished product didn’t end the way she wanted. Even some of the cast (Mrs. Bishop) thought the fans deserved more. I hope Amy and the cast come together one last time to wrap the series up respectively.

It will happen, give it time. There’s an old saying, “Good things happen to people that wait.”

  30. Carol says:

I agree that GG needs more seasons. It would be really unrealistic to see a double wedding and pregnancy. And Rory is 22 years old! Isn´t that a little young to get pregnant and married? I want to see her kids but I think in season 11. Than shes 26.

  31. Jess says:

Thank God!!!! dude, ASP has to do the movie now while it’s fresh for evryone..fans need closure now. she waits a couple and ASP will lose alot fan-base unless it works oppositely cuz people have been waiting and have worked up the anticipation but like some of you guys pointed out people will move on. my mom is already on my case to get over it and get a hobby.

  32. Denise says:

Of course I would prefer more seasons, but a movie is better than nothing…

  33. Ashley says:

movie?short season?Than I even prefer nothing! Then I wait a few years and then the actors are ready and Amy can shoot all her seasons.

  34. Antonia says:

I can wait but I agree (a) season(s) would be much better than a movie. Amy make (a) season(s).

  35. Emily says:

she was joking about the “ur adopted” right? i really hope she was joking!

  36. Katelyn234 says:

You’re adopted. That’s almost hilarious!!! I really hope that Amy Sherman-Palladino makes the Gilmore Girls Movie!!!

  37. Sam says:

    Long live all the TRORIES!
    **********************

    Cheers to that ;)

  38. krista says:

ahhhhhh! i seriously need another season,a movie or whatever!i just really need to know what happens next!i’m dying to know!!!!!!!!!!! i love gg

  39. james says:

I think a movie is a great idea!!!
I mean it would be a great way to fix the abrupt ending that was forced on us!!

  40. Claire says:

ther has got to be either another season or the movie i have to know if luke and lorelai get married, if sookie has a girl or boy and how rory does in the so called real world, ther is sooo much left open i need to know. Ther are alot of die-hard fans who are dying to now whats around the corner for most of the carachters, thers alot that needs answered i just hope with all my heart that some agreement is reached and they go ahead with the movie, it would be such a shame if we never seen these delightfull people of stars hollow again. Fans feel cheated, we were expecting at least one more season, so come on people get your thinking caps on and give us a movie with a proper ending PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let us say a proper goodbye.

  41. Danisauntie says:

I think that ABCFamily should step up to the plate and make a GG movie since they are showing it in re-runs. They have done it many times with other shows. All of the questions need to be answered. Especially since Rory went off to work on the Obama campaign, what has she been doing while on the presidential trail. What happened with the TA cause I think that he was her new honey. Does Lorelai’s dream come true-will she marry luke and have his twins? Do they actually get back together for good? Will Michel actually get a girlfriend? So many questions.

  42. Kaceenka says:

    Rory and Logan together!!!!
