Here is the directors cut video for Gilmore Girls 7.19 "It’s Just Like Riding a Bike". The whole video plays out the scene where Lorelai returns to the diner.
The scene opens with Lorelai gearing up to go into the diner. You know it’s a good thing because the "la la’s" are playing in the background. She sits at the counter, gets a tirade from Kirk about not wanting to give up his stool, and a welcome from Babette/Miss Patty. Luke seems surprised but all goes well. It is, however, incredibly awkward. After a time, Lorelai asks that her coffee be poured into a to-go cup. But it’s a great first step!

I saw Director Cut on the cw yesterday.It was awkawrd,but Lorelai look uncomforable,when she talk & ask Luke for give coffee him at diner.
What other way could this encounter have gone after a year away from the diner? It was very awkward and very real and Lorelei did make both leaps of faith by being the first to apologize (which was necessary) and making tracks back to the diner. It will be interesting & fun to see if Luke has made his own strides towards Lorelei in the “first to” department.
What effort do you think Luke will make toward Lorelei now that the ice has been broken?

Yes it is awkward. It’s kind of a cute awkward about not knowing what to say especially around Babette and Patty and Kirk. Kirk is funny when he talks about the stool. It’s starting to be normal Gilmore Girls. I think the awkardness comes from being watched by other people. It is a first step however. It was a brave thing for Lorelai to do after nearly a year away from the diner.
